This training program covers essential skills for safe rescues at heights, following industry standards and US-OSHA regulations. Participants will learn how to use rescue equipment and techniques, ensuring competence in practical applications. The course emphasizes personal safety and effective rescue operations, providing a comprehensive understanding of the necessary skills and knowledge for successful outcomes in height-related emergencies.

Objective

  • Safety Awareness: Understand the risks and hazards associated with working at heights and develop a strong awareness of safety protocols.

  • Equipment Familiarity: Learn to identify and properly use various height safety equipment, including harnesses, lanyards, and anchor points.

  • Rescue Techniques: Acquire skills to perform effective and safe rescues at height, including casualty assessment, securing the casualty, and using appropriate rescue tools.

  • Communication Skills: Develop clear communication techniques to coordinate rescue efforts effectively, ensuring a swift and coordinated response in emergency situations.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarize yourself with relevant regulations and standards governing working at heights, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and industry best practices.

Course Outline

Module 1: Equipment
Components: Hardware, software, auxiliary tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Module 2: Ropes and Knots
Rope Types: 2-person, 1-person, static kernmantle, dynamic.
Rope Safety: Fall Factor, Safety Margin, Rope Care & Storage.
Knots: Bowline, Figure 8, Prusik, Barrel Knot, Knots on Webbing, Rope Extension.

Module 3: Anchor & Anchoring
Anchor Points: Artificial, Natural.
Anchor Types: Simple, Complex, Tensionless.
Complex Anchors: Simple Self Equalizing Anchor (Simple SEA), Complex Self Equalizing Anchor (Complex SEA).

Other Concepts: Load Distribution, Anchor Positions (Directional, Backup).

Module 4: Operational Lines
Lines: Main Line, Belay Lines.
Belaying Systems: Belay Equipments, Bottom Belay Setup, Top Belay Setup.

Module 5: Rappelling & Abseiling
Responsibilities: Duties & Responsibilities.
Techniques: Setup, Ground Training, Rappelling & Abseiling, Working Middleway, Rope Extending Techniques.

Module 6: Stretcher Operation
Types: Spine Board, Scope, Paraguard, SKED, Basket, Stoke Stretcher.
Safety: Spine Protection, Head Immobilizer, Litter Package.

Harness: Spider Leg/Stretcher Harness for Horizontal and Vertical Evacuation.

Module 7: Stretcher Evacuation - Lowering, Hauling, and Highline
Evacuation Methods: Vertical Drop, Horizontal Drop.
Belaying Techniques: Device Control (Racks, Rescue Eight), Mechanical Advantages (4:1 Hauling Ratio), Bottom Belaying Techniques.
Other Techniques: Simple Lowering, Pick-Off Rescue (Buddy Rescue), Changeover from Descend to Ascend to Descend, Rope Climbing, Ascending, Descending.
Travel Line Method: Cable Car/Self Guide, Tag Line Control (Near Side, Far Side), Gravitational Control.
